Art and Culture-America In America we do things very similar. In the novel, Snow Falling In Spring, a memoir by Moying Li, we see that China has many customs. We may not do everything the same, but we do follow styles of clothing and music. When the media releases magazines that contain pictures of celebrities with new styles we tend to try and dress that way. Sometimes its hard to remember that we don't have to dress alike to fit in, and I believe this because of society. Our society has given everyone the wrong impression as to what beautiful is. Along with music and clothes, education and entertainment play another major role in our lives. Since schooling is mandatory, we try to find every way possible to enjoy the time we have outside of school whether its spending time with our family, our friends, or enjoying some of our favorite activities. We have learned to express who we truly are through each and every one of these things. MusicIn America, we have many different genres of music. We have learned to associate the different styles of music, to the different moods we have. Music plays a big role in our world today and we are granted the opportunity to listen to any kind of music that we want. Right now there are tons of radio stations playing all kinds of different music. Not only do we listen to music through the radio, but we also have the option to buy songs on our phones, ipods, and cd's. Some popular genres of music will be included in the video below. Music Genres ClothingAs well as the different kinds of music, there are many different styles of clothing. In America, we express ourselves through our clothing. We can dress the way we feel freely and all admire everyone's different styles. Clothing is a way to show others who you are, how you think, and what impression you want to leave on others. In America today, many people struggle with the thought of beauty. People have tried to tell us through magazines and the media that you HAVE to be skinny and you HAVE to be this or that. The media has given us the wrong impression of true beauty and we have to suffer because of their actions. Many of us find it hard to realize that you're beautiful no matter how skinny you are. It takes a lot of confidence to realize your true beauty and sometimes having the media there doesn't help at all. Luckily, we have the chance to enroll in schooling that deals with our beliefs, age, and/or gender. There are two different types of schools, private and public. Private schools are mostly Catholic, they include religion classes, uniforms, and sometimes either all girls or all boys. I attend a private school, Seton High School. Here we learn the same things as the other schools, but in a different way. Our schedules include religion class and we are required to wear uniforms. At public schools, things are quite different. Public schools consists of both boys and girls. They also do not have religion classes and uniforms are not required. One school near my area that is a public school would be Oak Hills High School. Although our schools have different rules and obligations, we still learn the same things during our time attending our different schools.
Entertainment As a teenager, I do many things to entertain myself. My friends and I enjoy hanging out with each other, going to movies, playing sports, and many other things! We also have T.V. and internet, allowing us to entertain ourselves with our own things. Us Americans always have something we like to do to entertain ourselves and it varies from person to person, but we always find something to do!
